ACROSS BOTH ROLES, HE DEMONSTRATED NOT ONLY PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE BUT ALSO DEEP COMPASSION FOR PEOPLE AND COMMUNITIES AND SERVED THE OFFICER. WOODS BEGINS A NEW CHAPTER IN THAT SERVICE, THIS TIME IN A SCHOOL BASED ENVIRONMENT. HIS LEADERSHIP, MENTORSHIP, AND REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE WILL MAKE A MEANINGFUL DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF STUDENTS AND STAFF. SO WE'RE USING THIS FEEDBACK TO GUIDE IMPROVEMENTS IN THE YEAR AHEAD, REINFORCING OUR COMMITMENT TO SCHOOL SUCCESS AND STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. AS WE MOVE INTO GRADUATION RATES. THIS FIRST SLIDE SHOWS OUR ONE YEAR GRADUATION RATE ALONGSIDE PHOTOS FROM ONE OF OUR GRADUATION CEREMONIES THIS YEAR. THESE ARE MOMENTS THAT TRULY INSPIRE AND REMIND US WHY WE DO THIS WORK. THE ONE YEAR GRADUATION RATE REFLECTS THE PERCENTAGE OF 12TH GRADE STUDENTS WHO GRADUATE WITHIN A SCHOOL YEAR. ON THIS SLIDE, YOU WILL SEE OUR 4 TO 5 YEAR GRADUATION RATE TRACK STUDENTS GRADUATING WITHIN A 4 OR 5 YEARS FROM 4 TO 5 YEARS AFTER ENTERING NINTH GRADE. THE ONE YEAR RATE IS ESPECIALLY RELEVANT FOR OH FIVE, AS WE SERVE A HIGHLY TRANSIENT POPULATION, AND OFTEN OUR STUDENTS ARE COMING TO US PRETTY CREDIT DEFICIENT. WHILE WE'VE SEEN A DECLINE IN OUR 4 OR 5 YEAR GRADUATION RATE, WE ARE ACTIVELY ADDRESSING THIS WITH NEW PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATIONS AND ROLE SHIFTS AIMED AT BOOSTING AWARENESS AND PROGRESS. PLANNED IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDE OUR STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM, INTEGRATING INTEGRATION TO TRACK COHORT GOALS, PACING, AND DEADLINES WE'RE CREATING. WE'VE CREATED A NEW FRAMEWORK ALIGNING OUR CAREER PATHWAYS COORDINATORS AND POST-SECONDARY COUNSELORS TO ENSURE EARLY ACADEMIC AND POST-SECONDARY AWARENESS FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES. AND WE ARE GOING TO BE PILOTING A STUDENT SUCCESS INTERVENTION COACH THIS YEAR TO SUPPORT STUDENTS FROM THE MOMENT OF ENROLLMENT FORWARD, FOCUSING ON GOAL SETTING, PACING, AND EXPECTATIONS OF OUR SCHOOLS THAT WILL SUPPORT THE STUDENTS IN THEIR JOURNEY THROUGH GRADUATION. STUDENT PROGRESS AND ATTENDANCE. INTERNALLY, WE REGULARLY MONITOR STUDENT PROGRESSION AND ATTENDANCE, WHICH ARE CLOSELY LINKED. OVER THE PAST 3 TO 4 YEARS, WE'VE SEEN STEADY RECOVERY FROM POST COVID DIPS CORE COURSE COMPLETION. WE ALSO MONITOR CORE COURSE COMPLETION FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED FOR TEN MONTHS OR MORE. ALTHOUGH 2425 DATA CURRENTLY APPEARS A LITTLE LOW, WE ARE STILL FINALIZING GRADES FOR SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION AND INDEPENDENT STUDY COURSEWORK, AND WE ANTICIPATE GROWTH BY THE MONTHS END BECAUSE OUR SCHOOL YEAR DOESN'T ACTUALLY END UNTIL JUNE 30TH. ALTITUDE IN SCHOOL CLIMATE SURVEY. SOME KEY AREAS OF STRENGTH. WE HELD OUR FIRST ANNUAL PEP RALLY, WHICH WAS A HUGE SUCCESS, WHICH WE WILL HAVE AGAIN THIS COMING YEAR. PARENTS AND STUDENTS ALL ATTENDED THAT. WE ALSO LAUNCHED OUR CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY. YOU'RE ONE OF OUR THREE CTE PROGRAMS MEDIA ARTS OR CTE PROGRAMS, MEDIA ARTS, CNA, COSMETOLOGY, AND VETERINARY SCIENCE. WE INCREASED OUR DUAL ENROLLMENT OPPORTUNITIES, AND WE WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO GROW THAT IN THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR. LOOKING AHEAD, WE'RE EXCITED TO EXPAND AND EXPAND OUR NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY PARTICIPATION, LAUNCH A NEW CTE PROGRAM IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, AND FURTHER INCREASE TO ENROLLMENT ACCESS. WE CURRENTLY HAVE MOUS WITH TWO JUNIOR COLLEGES. AS WE LOOK FORWARD. OUR GOALS AND AREAS OF FOCUS THIS YEAR INCLUDE IMPROVING OUR 4 TO 5 YEAR GRADUATION RATE, INCREASED STUDENT FAMILY, ACADEMIC AWARENESS, AND IDENTIFYING DATA SPECIFIC GOALS THROUGH THE FOLLOWING IMPROVED COHORT TRACKING PRACTICES WITH OUR STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM. TOOLS THAT WILL BE IMPLEMENTED IN THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR. CPC AND COUNSELOR COLLABORATIONS TO SUPPORT FAMILY, STUDENT, ACADEMIC, AND POST-SECONDARY AWARENESS. WE WILL ALSO BE IMPLEMENTING THE USE OF CALIFORNIA COLLEGES WEBSITE TO BRING EXPLORATION OPPORTUNITIES TO OUR STUDENTS. WE'VE PREVIOUSLY BROUGHT THAT THROUGH ANOTHER PROGRAM, AND WE'RE LOOKING AT SWITCHING TO THE CALIFORNIA COLLEGES EARLY STUDENT FAMILY ENGAGEMENT VIA THE STUDENT SUCCESS COACH PILOT AND INCREASED TEACHER MEETINGS. DISCUSSIONS WITH STUDENTS AND FAMILIES FOCUSED ON ACADEMIC OUTCOMES TOWARDS GRADUATION AND PROACTIVE PLANNING AND SMART GOALS INFORMED BY DATA SPECIALISTS AND ADMINISTRATIVE LEADERSHIP. ALL OF THESE AREAS OF FOCUS AND GOALS ARE INTERRELATED AND WILL INCLUDE VARIOUS STAFF INVOLVEMENT AND COLLABORATION FOR A SUCCESSFUL, SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION. THE LAWSUIT HIGHLIGHTED THE ARGUMENT THAT DEPUTY WOODS HANDLING OF THE SITUATION WAS INADEQUATE, AND FAILED TO ACCOUNT FOR THIS YOUNG MAN'S MENTAL HEALTH CONDITION.

ULTIMATELY, THE SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY FACE SEVERE CONSEQUENCES, WHICH IS US WHERE SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, FOR THE ACTIONS OF DEPUTY WOODS BEING COMPELLED TO PAY A SUBSTANTIAL SETTLEMENT IN AMOUNT OF $33.5 MILLION. THE RAMIFICATIONS OF THIS INCIDENT EXTENDED BEYOND THE COURTROOM.

HOWEVER, THIS MOVE MAY SERVE TO CRIMINALIZE MINOR INFRACTIONS AND BEHAVIOR AND INVOLVED FORMAL JUSTICE SYSTEM WHICH COULD RESULT IN CRIMINAL RECORDS AND SERIOUS NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES FOR THE STUDENT'S FUTURE.

BECAUSE THE SCHOOL BASED LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL ARE TAKEN FROM MUNICIPAL LAW ENFORCEMENT DEPARTMENTS, THEY TEND TO APPLY COMMUNITY LAW ENFORCEMENT TACTICS. A PERSON WHO HAS BEEN ADJUDICATED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR NEGLIGENTLY USING EXTREME, AGGRESSIVE LETHAL FORCE THAT RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF A DISABLED BLACK INDIVIDUAL IS, IN MY OPINION, NOT THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR THE POSITION ON SCHOOL BOARD. HIS CONTRIBUTION WAS CLEARLY NONVIOLENT, NON-THREATENING, AND IN FACT INTENDED TO NEUTRALIZE THE DARK PREMISE OTHERS WERE ENTERTAINING. THIS DISTINCTION IS VITAL IN ASSESSING HIS INTENT AND BEHAVIOR. MY SON IS A GOOD STUDENT WITH NO PRIOR DISCIPLINARY ISSUES TO REMOVE HIM FROM HIS SCHOOL COMMUNITY OVER A MISINTERPRETED CREATIVE ACT IS TO MISS A CHANCE FOR RESTORATIVE EDUCATION AND GROWTH. THIS SUSPENSION ALREADY SERVED WAS SIGNIFICANT DISCIPLINARY MEASURE AND A WAKE UP CALL. HOWEVER, EXPELLING OR RELEASING HIM WOULD HAVE LONG TERM CONSEQUENCES THAT FAR OUTWEIGH THE NATURE OF HIS ACTIONS. AND WE HAD A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY A FEW DAYS TO GO TO BE ONE OF FOUR DISTRICTS IN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY TO PARTAKE IN AN MOU WITH THE COUNTY AND CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO TO HAVE AUTOMATIC ADMISSIONS WITHOUT STUDENTS HAVING TO GO THROUGH THE APPLICATION PROCESS. OF COURSE, SOME OF THOSE BUILDINGS BUILDINGS DIDN'T EXIST WHEN I WAS THERE, BUT I REALLY APPRECIATED THE TIME THAT MIKE TOOK TO HELP ME LEARN HIS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. WE GRADUATED 2200 KIDS OVER THE LAST WEEK. AND WHEN YOU STOP AND THINK ABOUT THE GRADUATES THAT WE HAVE GOING TO IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY COLLEGES, GOING TO THE MILITARY, GOING TO THE WORKFORCE, TRADE SCHOOLS AND JUST HEARING THEIR STORIES, AND THAT WE JUST WERE A PART OF THAT, JUST A SMALL LITTLE PART OF THAT IN THE BLESSING THAT WE HAVE TO JUST BE ABLE TO INFLUENCE, YOU KNOW, SO MANY, SO MANY LIVES AS THEY THEY GO ABOUT AND JUST US UNDERSTANDING THAT WE'RE JUST THE BEGINNING, WE'RE NOT THE END. AND HOW FORTUNATE WE ARE TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT WORK. AND SO WITH THAT IN MIND, ALSO LOOKING FORWARD TO SOME DOWNTIME, YOU KNOW, AS WE GET ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF BEFORE WE NOT EVEN THAT IF WE GET LIKE A FRIDAY HERE AND THERE, BUT LOOKING FORWARD TO SOME DOWNTIME AND I HOPE EVERYBODY DOES GET SOME TIME TO RELAX, RECHARGE AND RE-ENERGIZE.
